Workshops

Every semester we offer a broad variety of courses and workshops. These two to three hour workshops are designed using a hands-on approach and give you the opportunity to practice the theoretical input given with practical exercises concerning the topic. Participation is free of charce for all students and PhD-students of Bayreuth University.

Each workshop holds up to 15 participants. Please register beforehand with an e-mail to schreibzentrum@uni-bayreuth.de stating your subject and your current semester. If you cannot participate any longer please send us an e-mail as soon as possible.

At the moment, most of our workshops are held in German. However, we are working on offering more and more workshops in English. Find our current English workshops below.

Introduction to Academic WritingHide

Writing a term paper can be challenging. You might have many questions and insecurities, such as: How can I structure my outline and my text in general?

Why is it so important to have a research question and proper citation? And: How can I deal with literature efficiently? In the course of this workshop we will talk about how to approach and structure an academic paper taking all stages into account – from finding a topic to completing the term paper.

Please note that this workshop will be held in English and specifically addresses students who haven't written a term paper etc. yet.

Principles of Academic Writing in EnglishHide

The role of English in the scientific community is growing and more and more papers, also in non-English speaking countries, have to be written in English. This workshop deals with the challenges of using English in an academic context - especially when you are not a native speaker. It will give an overview of the features of English as a scientific language and will help you to use English as a means to write your papers.

In the course of the workshop we will talk about the essentials of style, grammar and word choice and will look at the importance of guiding your readers through your argumentation by writing in concise and comprehensible manner.

Please note that this workshop will be held in English and experience from at least one term paper is necessary.
